The Flames of Life

The sunsets here in Tonopah, Arizona set the heavens aflame. Every night they come on slowly, at first turning the sky subtle shades of powder pink. Don't look away for a moment or you'll miss the light show: streaks of burnt orange and fuchsia emerge from the mountain tops like flames. The clouds blaze red and pink and gray, then a juicy orange becomes the horizon, until the sun drops down, and out of sight.

Then our campfire lights up the night - the kindling and logs are crisscrossed just so to create enough space for the elements to commingle. Embers smolder like the sky. Watching fire is profound - nothing stays the same inside of that heat, it's a lesson in transmutation and transformation.

Light is shifting continuously - from sunrise to sunset, to star shine and moon glow, we are always surrounded by flame, and immersed in it, too. Every cell in the human body is a mini sun, burning at about 100 degrees - so fire meditation is built-in and all natural. Bring your own awareness to this constant flame of life - what do you want to transform, turn on, illuminate? Meditate on the flame of life, the flame of love, the flame of time.
